Why EMERGE?

The United Nations explains:

"Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large."

The EMERGE Lab helps to fulfill the UN's Sustainable Development Goals towards Gender Equity (Target 5) by promoting shared responsibility for reproductive health to alleviate a burden otherwise exclusively borne by women.

It's a Man's World. Do women just live in it?

  • While women make up half of the US population, women make up one-quarter of US Congress.

  • If men are not widely informed about women's experiences, particularly their sexual and reproductive health issues, then legislation will always and even further disadvantage women.

How do we move legislation towards gender equity?

1. Increase women's representation
    in the United States' Congress

2. Educate and sensitize men to
women's experiences & SRH issues

How does EMERGE help?
By using research to show that sexual and reproductive health are NOT just a woman's issue, but rather, EVERYONE'S issue.
